Here are some tips to help you take better food photos:</p><ol><li><p>Lighting: Good lighting is crucial for taking great food photos. Natural light is usually the best, so try to take your photos near a window or outside on a bright day. If you don't have access to natural light, you can use artificial lights, such as studio lights or a lamp.</p></li><li><p>Composition: Pay attention to the composition of your photo. Try to create a balanced and visually appealing image by arranging the food in an interesting way. Consider the background and the colors of the elements in your photo to make sure they complement the food.</p></li><li><p>Angle: Experiment with different angles to find the one that works best for the dish you are photographing. For example, you might take a photo from above for a dish with a lot of toppings or from the side for a dish with layers.</p></li><li><p>Props: Consider adding props, such as plates, utensils, and napkins, to add visual interest and context to your photos. Make sure the props complement the food and don't detract from it.</p></li><li><p>Edit: Use editing software, such as Lightroom or Photoshop, to enhance the colors, brightness, and contrast of your photos. However, be careful not to over-edit your photos, as this can result in an unnatural and unappetizing look.</p></li></ol><p>By following these tips, you can take better food pictures and share your culinary creations with the world.</p><p><b>Can you show me some example?</b></p><p>I'm sorry, but I am a text-based AI language model and do not have the

It is about quality, not quantity. I cannot promise you that you will get X numbers of pictures after the session but I can promise you that you will get some nice pictures that you want to hang on your wall.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6AQpMAqleF956xYdXIKJnxWDtoF45wHCDUAm0mbMssPtezkqi9KWIdvsQGOI-m20hj88UDf7bmgjoSMhLZCvcdpy84YWmil7gQ33PxVj_2JA459zCI-PLRgLp6VTUfKzUvl1p0OeQV4Q/s2048/DSC_8642.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1360" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6AQpMAqleF956xYdXIKJnxWDtoF45wHCDUAm0mbMssPtezkqi9KWIdvsQGOI-m20hj88UDf7bmgjoSMhLZCvcdpy84YWmil7gQ33PxVj_2JA459zCI-PLRgLp6VTUfKzUvl1p0OeQV4Q/w426-h640/DSC_8642.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><p></p><p>As for the duration of a session. I think 1 hour session maybe too short. In all my shoots, 100% of the time the baby made a fussy during the session. Then the parents would rush to the next outfit change, instead of spending some quiet time to calm the baby. That made the baby even more fussy. It is a downward spiral.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggFUpW7cUZ0HQuoX1LcAFCUg-tINIFGY_rfRd4nO9qlPEAz5pM_OA5gOVsgfSsXopCYN6TRAm9OfK95rHloQ-SFhY1W0ILSrn46jbjdRx6PlGA4xCEmgvxMvblVgt0__NUK92iOHeIoh8/s2048/DSC_8602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1360" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggFUpW7cUZ0HQuoX1LcAFCUg-tINIFGY_rfRd4nO9qlPEAz5pM_OA5gOVsgfSsXopCYN6TRAm9OfK95rHloQ-SFhY1W0ILSrn46jbjdRx6PlGA4xCEmgvxMvblVgt0__NUK92iOHeIoh8/w426-h640/DSC_8602.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><p>On the other hand, I think 3 hours is too long. Unless you have a large family and a long shoot list, you don't really need 3 hours. Everyone will be bored and tired after a couple hours of shooting.</p><p>Therefore, I think the optimal length for a session is 2 hours. It gives enough for a few outfit changes. Some quiet time to calm the baby when we need it. Time to feed the baby when he/shes gets fussy. For calm babies, I should be able to cover everything the parents want in 1.5 hours. For others, a 2-hour session give enough buffer and no one needs to rush. And of course, I will stay as long as I can to get the good pictures for you.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUsZAKfI_FL881klOS6mkmew6iYCWNwPfxSmhFvkfwCnL7I6CChMkR8jWebdNBLhma3vyHyGVbHpYj2peQPEctgUKXI7b_eGt03uDXHoQnfh4M5VVszhQG9HYRLk0bzqczrWpLfyqov_k/s2048/DSC_8285.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1360" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUsZAKfI_FL881klOS6mkmew6iYCWNwPfxSmhFvkfwCnL7I6CChMkR8jWebdNBLhma3vyHyGVbHpYj2peQPEctgUKXI7b_eGt03uDXHoQnfh4M5VVszhQG9HYRLk0bzqczrWpLfyqov_k/w426-h640/DSC_8285.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><br /> <br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>kelvinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14997324847571926340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7696126241995871029.post-48254641302710622192021-10-18T11:45:00.004-07:002021-10-18T11:47:19.046-07:00Pictures with the siblings <p>If you have more than one kid, you probably want to have some pictures of the baby with the brother(s)/sister(s). </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaRhH5L0nfuvrtpHOzTjSiOz3RDm0FXZJvG5L7VSfBBoKUf6COf157AdmIqe_WtVhcJ9kHBd6qX8iSErmrNI54lOdahtBuT13WFCTx6GleVfqjk1tekZslQnxRqoPyYJUatR45LR8soRE/s2048/BO7_2002.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaRhH5L0nfuvrtpHOzTjSiOz3RDm0FXZJvG5L7VSfBBoKUf6COf157AdmIqe_WtVhcJ9kHBd6qX8iSErmrNI54lOdahtBuT13WFCTx6GleVfqjk1tekZslQnxRqoPyYJUatR45LR8soRE/w640-h426/BO7_2002.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>The older the siblings, the easier to get them to cooperate. However, in a typical family, the siblings most likely are just 1 to 3 years older. 1 to 3 year-old kids are the most difficult subject to photograph. They are mobile. They are full of energy. And they don't listen to instruction. They want to do whatever they want, whenever they want. </p><p>Girls are a little easier than boys. You can dress them up and they will sit still for a few minutes.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjflPurO3g_arWNAGCC38GXPNShKXQenbzR0JksjiA0ncwXJ9dUslYdHJ2RtxgcwI9wP-yHOmm9fdyIGuQ7eX6A_QYdqydItuqQVa1xJLPqeiC1RE_B22DCg6YklSY9Ndlv8-uAi7OGgac/s2048/DSC_6122.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1360" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjflPurO3g_arWNAGCC38GXPNShKXQenbzR0JksjiA0ncwXJ9dUslYdHJ2RtxgcwI9wP-yHOmm9fdyIGuQ7eX6A_QYdqydItuqQVa1xJLPqeiC1RE_B22DCg6YklSY9Ndlv8-uAi7OGgac/w640-h426/DSC_6122.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>But it still depends on their personality. As a parent, you should know them better than I do but I don't recommend the parents to force the kids to do what they don't want to do. No one will be happy afterward. If they don't want to do it, just move on. We wasted so much time trying to get this brother to pose with the baby. Unless you really want their picture together. Maybe it is better off to use the time for something else.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV-HO5Sn5rcO_TkdniSXFFUcA4L4DTOIb2g76OKdbFzdymBJvLWhokX-548iTAPfjgYbHeXuS5vKuwwsChGeKzOSlVTe8fiEO9dGGH-C6FXUfLW1I47EM_bRcpNtxUme3MTyDDZ33v34k/s2048/DSC_4546.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1360" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV-HO5Sn5rcO_TkdniSXFFUcA4L4DTOIb2g76OKdbFzdymBJvLWhokX-548iTAPfjgYbHeXuS5vKuwwsChGeKzOSlVTe8fiEO9dGGH-C6FXUfLW1I47EM_bRcpNtxUme3MTyDDZ33v34k/w640-h426/DSC_4546.jpg" width="640" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Not only being uncooperative, something they can be disruptive. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimY6_ES5clYa3Q9cWNUalujzDmWvAEDxSB3QmlscmpCjC1wnpQ-fs9ooTbsyEDgVEEPsw8QiHHvPfRxVOgUoVqhwrvfA3psk_HP382aL_Ax28re2sVWUwpCam36erjkovMOGbRnTVDIuk/s2048/DSC_8966.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1360" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimY6_ES5clYa3Q9cWNUalujzDmWvAEDxSB3QmlscmpCjC1wnpQ-fs9ooTbsyEDgVEEPsw8QiHHvPfRxVOgUoVqhwrvfA3psk_HP382aL_Ax28re2sVWUwpCam36erjkovMOGbRnTVDIuk/w640-h426/DSC_8966.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>We ended up having dad to take the brother out for a car ride while I was doing the photo shoot with mom and baby. You will get a link to a password-protected gallery, which you can easily share with your friends and family.<br /><p></p><p>You can then download the images on your computer and/or phone. You can use them as your background. However, I think the best way to enjoy the pictures everyday is to print them, frame them, and hang them on a wall. Just click "Buy Photo" at the lower right hang corner of the picture.</p><p>Next you will get this side bar:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihOOH7qQvniibyoulqYZNBjIozGvHIVCgcwXwCpG8Hsb2YqKh8ymLUvrBompslGAWvOX6fvgedkxoMhtyfWZmQrIa6c93GTEI3MC-NDK7n_vaO60BBHQUVJOZxlLl-Wx9bMY8OY4TGO_s/s2048/Screen+Shot+2021-10-13+at+8.22.46+AM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1032" data-original-width="2048" height="322" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihOOH7qQvniibyoulqYZNBjIozGvHIVCgcwXwCpG8Hsb2YqKh8ymLUvrBompslGAWvOX6fvgedkxoMhtyfWZmQrIa6c93GTEI3MC-NDK7n_vaO60BBHQUVJOZxlLl-Wx9bMY8OY4TGO_s/w640-h322/Screen+Shot+2021-10-13+at+8.22.46+AM.png" width="640" /></a></div><p>You can order different types of prints. Here are the steps I take:</p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Decide which wall I want to hang the picture.</li><li>Look for a frame that may look good with the picture. I usually get my frames from IKEA. Their price is low and their frames look pretty good. You can also find some nice frame from Target. I usually buy frames locally because I can return them easily if they don't look good on my wall.<br /></li><li>I get the frame and try it on the wall and see if the size of the frame looks good on that wall.</li><li>Then I order the size of the print that fit that frame.</li><li>Put the print on the frame, hang the frame, and enjoy.</li></ol><p>Here is the choices of frames at IKEA. <br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjVwkXOpT968bRJ8bL2B1IPebu9U9GfYjEFpEgJQB-9SPQ9fG72Nz-XIYF-749AjPea45dGEqELfSqLbRQFzba4bqv4Fm6d1Dp7WufOMyO7NsNCoXdgwBNpGkeNSblVpc5o5iec7m7JbE/s2048/IMG_6215.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjVwkXOpT968bRJ8bL2B1IPebu9U9GfYjEFpEgJQB-9SPQ9fG72Nz-XIYF-749AjPea45dGEqELfSqLbRQFzba4bqv4Fm6d1Dp7WufOMyO7NsNCoXdgwBNpGkeNSblVpc5o5iec7m7JbE/w640-h480/IMG_6215.jpg" width="640" /></a></div> <p></p><p>For images that I love, I use custom framing. This can cost hundreds of dollars. However, I can have custom size and material. If you are going to hang the picture on a prime location, you may want to use a really nice frame but you can still use the above steps to figure out the size.</p><p>Another advantage with custom frame is you can use UV-protected glass.
This is important if you are going to hang the picture on a wall that

I have multiple clients wanted the same pose. However, I told my clients that I can put them in that pose but we may not be able to get the same "feel." The picture captured the "moment" between those two couple and we may not be able to capture the same. We can try but we need to go with the "flow."</p><p>So I would start my clients with the similar pose and then I let the magic happen. Here is an example on how I like to let it "flow" and let the pose "evolve."<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-bs_GFOMW4AUnBUbzZfHI488UVOPC1urOVA1Ln2HcLkLU_2tVSZhmrOny3fvJ49gW6G_yE28bidLgsLyGiLKFIXiX9JYsVXCzj4xZLgooDgyJMITaQGoslV0z_YX5Gnh2sNbRlV8ZyyQ/s2048/BO7_7652.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1363" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-bs_GFOMW4AUnBUbzZfHI488UVOPC1urOVA1Ln2HcLkLU_2tVSZhmrOny3fvJ49gW6G_yE28bidLgsLyGiLKFIXiX9JYsVXCzj4xZLgooDgyJMITaQGoslV0z_YX5Gnh2sNbRlV8ZyyQ/w426-h640/BO7_7652.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZm-uFGUMtjt6LVGb_Mi-G36TyGFmtOBY0Ie6ob9wyIX6li1WMuKAXy1JsrRKxWjfky258ZayGQJHdDjmHS63E_Zd1X6iFHumwo4K8cgS4viL2JXoIn1FCU4prD3G7LRY0l_YS9Vk-B6A/s2048/BO7_7674.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1363" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZm-uFGUMtjt6LVGb_Mi-G36TyGFmtOBY0Ie6ob9wyIX6li1WMuKAXy1JsrRKxWjfky258ZayGQJHdDjmHS63E_Zd1X6iFHumwo4K8cgS4viL2JXoIn1FCU4prD3G7LRY0l_YS9Vk-B6A/w426-h640/BO7_7674.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbGhgXo2U52-Guk9oGDB7jMzs0yVK5UOWhFouOOBlWXg5crN4oOeaQjL0oSFFAB2sB0D8QCeYQZTBKAc1Zr7xBYOmM3XyHPAzhjhx1z0HIfpTTmAWRC8gZKZ7K4HOOvE9BysnCvkKTClY/s2048/BO7_7686.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1363" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbGhgXo2U52-Guk9oGDB7jMzs0yVK5UOWhFouOOBlWXg5crN4oOeaQjL0oSFFAB2sB0D8QCeYQZTBKAc1Zr7xBYOmM3XyHPAzhjhx1z0HIfpTTmAWRC8gZKZ7K4HOOvE9BysnCvkKTClY/w426-h640/BO7_7686.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><p></p><p>So my advice is: don't fixate on a particular pose. Just let it evolve and watch for the magic moment(s). Keep moving and shifting. We may not be able to have picture with that exact pose but we will have good pictures of that magic moment.<br /></p>kelvinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14997324847571926340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7696126241995871029.post-17238886105061260602021-09-28T16:37:00.002-07:002021-09-29T06:45:09.315-07:00How to prepare for your DoorDash photo shoot<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF9QjhJTmwVwKhOrUnehN3yk_ff46H8j4WcpXev30vNMB92WkI5VMMEsWCZ7yFgpdwBSLTN8zS4M0D9jaWv_9FenAtR2lZPeJWFK32j6IpFNrih9yVuviJegfHMFxBOvJXPaEW1-1Hhp4/s2048/BO7_6241.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF9QjhJTmwVwKhOrUnehN3yk_ff46H8j4WcpXev30vNMB92WkI5VMMEsWCZ7yFgpdwBSLTN8zS4M0D9jaWv_9FenAtR2lZPeJWFK32j6IpFNrih9yVuviJegfHMFxBOvJXPaEW1-1Hhp4/w640-h426/BO7_6241.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>I have been shooting for DoorDash for over 2 years. If you want photos taken for your food for free, you can get more info <a href="https://help.doordash.com/merchants/s/article/Free-DoorDash-Photoshoots" target="_blank">here</a>. I know other delivery apps also provide similar free service. Just check with them. Here are some tips that can make your session go smoothly.</p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Give yourself a week or two to plan the session. Don't go into the session without doing some planning. Here are the things that you need to plan out:<ul><li>What dishes do you want to shoot? Usually people take pictures of the food that will show up on the first page. Write the list down and give a copy to the photographer because we need the names when we submit the photos.<br /></li><li>Do you have all the materials ready to prepare those dishes?</li><li>Are
your staff ready to make those dishes quickly? A session with DoorDash
is between 1.5 - 2 hours and they want to get pictures for 10-15 dishes.
So your staff need to know how prepare those dishes quickly.</li><li>Do
you have the space available for the photo shoot? Some photographer
brings their lighting equipment, so you will need to give them space to
set it up. I prefer to shoot with natural light, so a table next to a
big window will be good.</li><li>What time and what day is the shoot?
Don't do it on a busy day or during your service hours. My shoots are
usually between 10-12 or 2-4 on a weekday, like Monday or Tuesday. And make sure your staff know about the shoot.<br /></li></ul></li><li>Try to schedule all the delivery apps to shoot around the same time. This way, you only need to prepare the dishes once. Save your food cost. As long as you have enough space, we don't mind shooting next to other photographers.<br /></li><li>Confirm the session with the photographer. When we call/text you, please respond. If you don't want the shoot, just cancel it. If you ghost us, you are just wasting our time. We work as individual freelancer, our time is important to us.</li><li>If you want some extra pictures taken for your social media, just ask. Not sure about other photographers but when I am asked, I would do it (as long as we have time in your session).</li><li>Invite your friends and have a party. Usually the restaurant would give me some food after the shoot. Since I can only take a few dishes, there are still many dishes left. You can invite your friends to eat them. They probably won't mind the food is little cold because they are your friends and the food is free.</li><li>Finally, if for any reason that you don't want to shoot, please cancel the session and call/text the photographer. It really pisses me off when I show up at the restaurant and is told they cannot shoot. Even the session is free, someone is paying for it. My time is as valuable as yours.</li></ol><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxo8g6hbDscHSMJknYxXF3MmO10wOZDP6nlUJjvZya4sd4NJO8EcoahLJEfiSSujLd4ONI19jDOGpxBrToSFlcXSNYPEjPAVZGQki1hro7Q5C3ScqC9q8k6gH7NSZpyaT7r8RUuqz5DvA/s2048/BO7_9792.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxo8g6hbDscHSMJknYxXF3MmO10wOZDP6nlUJjvZya4sd4NJO8EcoahLJEfiSSujLd4ONI19jDOGpxBrToSFlcXSNYPEjPAVZGQki1hro7Q5C3ScqC9q8k6gH7NSZpyaT7r8RUuqz5DvA/w640-h426/BO7_9792.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /> <p></p> <p><br /></p>kelvinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14997324847571926340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7696126241995871029.post-23796108740962483282021-09-26T09:00:00.002-07:002021-09-26T09:00:26.857-07:00Newborn baby poses and props<p>Congratulations on your new baby. I think it is ten times tougher during the pandemic. I have never run a restaurant before but I have been taking pictures for many restaurants and I have talked to many owners. I understand the challenges they are facing and I feel their pain.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip-J5FtkUCUwY_d_JkyaL9y0WvKkm2DEtu01sjyTgrKO7MAvcdFNzt1qEmCah1XVJAnD9iDlLTVhZGctYYPZdm3vWWKgB_pz4IwgCw3R_vy2PBi7CZHp8oc83RFI-GOeQhTZuMydhuqI0/s2048/BO7_4044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip-J5FtkUCUwY_d_JkyaL9y0WvKkm2DEtu01sjyTgrKO7MAvcdFNzt1qEmCah1XVJAnD9iDlLTVhZGctYYPZdm3vWWKgB_pz4IwgCw3R_vy2PBi7CZHp8oc83RFI-GOeQhTZuMydhuqI0/w640-h426/BO7_4044.jpg" width="640" /></a></div> <p></p><p>So before you spend hundreds of dollars to take pictures of your food, you need to ask yourself this question: what are the pictures for?</p><p>If you just want to have some pictures for the delivering apps, you can get a free photo session from those companies. I have shot for DoorDash and UberEats and they both provide a free photo session to the restaurants that join their platform. DoorDash will give a 2 hours free session to have pictures taken for 15-20 dishes. UberEats will do 7 dishes. I think all the other apps also provide this free service, so contact the vendor support of the platform and schedule one. In future post, I will discuss how you can use this free service efficiently.</p><p>Another reason people want to have a photo shoot is to have pictures for their own ordering site and/or for their printed menu. Before hiring a photographer, here are something to think about:</p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>How many items on your menu? If you have more than 20 items, it can get pretty expensive to have pictures taken for all the items.</li><li>How often will you change the items on your menu? Are you going to have a daily special? Weekly special? Or monthly special? Are you planning to hire a photographer to the new item(s)? That can get expensive too.</li></ul><p>If you are not going to print the pictures in large format, you should think about shooting the photos yourself. You can even shoot them with your phone. As long as you have good lighting, your photos should be good enough for your website. If you have a staff that is interested in photography, let him/her to shoot them for you. People take picture of their food all the times these days and some of those photos are as good as the pro's. You can save a lot of money by DIY. If you need help on how to get started, you can check out my post<a href="http://blog.yuestudio.com/2021/09/my-on-location-set-up-for-food.html" target="_blank"> here</a>. I am also available to coach you. Just contact me.</p><p>People also want photos for their social media. This one you should definitely think about DIY, or ask a staff to do it. But if you have already hired a photographer, you can ask him/her to take some extra shots for the social media. I usually do it without charging extra. You can check out some example <a href="https://www.yuestudio.com/Client/Food/Clients-s-social-media-/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br /></p><p>So there you have it. Before you spend any of your hard earned dollars, think about what you can do in house. Contact me if you have any questions. I am available for free consultation. Just give me some free food in exchange. <br /></p><p><br /></p>kelvinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14997324847571926340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7696126241995871029.post-73459500714599145062021-09-21T11:04:00.009-07:002021-10-15T06:46:18.099-07:00So you want to have a newborn photo shoot<p>First, you need to decide when you want the pictures to be taken? Do you want to have the pictures taken when the baby is just a few days old? Do you want to have the pictures taken to capture the baby's milestone (1 month old, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year old)?</p><p>If you want to have the pictures taken when the baby is a few days old. You need to start planning before the baby is born. You need to research and book the photographer at least 2 weeks to a months ahead. There are so many Covid babies now and the photographer you want may not be available and you don't want to lose that "newborn look" window. I recommend to take the pictures when the baby is between 7 to 10 days old. The baby still has the "newborn look" but the immune system is a little stronger. Also, after a week, you should know your baby's schedule and we can shoot around that. Although babies at this age just eat, poop and sleep, they can still be fussy when there is a stranger in the house. So for a 2-hour session, you should expect to have just about 30 minutes of good shooting time. Plan your session ahead, so we can make sure we capture what you want during the limited time.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCYF_i0WEK6IPESyI13qoKtqddKOHHfCGrwHjYEpGEhJ_pknh_aUAiVIRcUZyHtHdt6XVgLUdf8OXrX6AnC7DWgkIRnwYrhf6tpQZdUhQl5NlgtcPkqhS9SewEXU_2-nQzdrvHPEARbLk/s2048/Zamora-137.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCYF_i0WEK6IPESyI13qoKtqddKOHHfCGrwHjYEpGEhJ_pknh_aUAiVIRcUZyHtHdt6XVgLUdf8OXrX6AnC7DWgkIRnwYrhf6tpQZdUhQl5NlgtcPkqhS9SewEXU_2-nQzdrvHPEARbLk/w640-h426/Zamora-137.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>Whether the session is for a newborn or a 6-month old, I encourage my clients to start a <a href="https://www.canva.com/learn/make-a-mood-board/" target="_blank">mood board</a> on <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>. They can share the pictures they like with me and I can plan on how to capture them for their baby. You can get some ideas from the one I have <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/yuestudio/babies/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br /></p><p>Once you have an idea on what you want, you can start gathering props and clothes for the shoot. You can get pretty much everything you want from <a href="https://amzn.to/3tZeDqP" target="_blank">Amazon</a>. You can also try your local Target and Walmart or any baby clothing stores. I have a post that talks about what I have, you can check it out <a href="http://blog.yuestudio.com/2021/09/my-setup-for-on-location-newborn-session.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</p><p>The next step to prepare for the session is to create a shot list. Since the time is limited in a session, we want to make sure we don't miss anything during the shoot. You can create a list of shots that you want with the combinations of these items:</p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>list of clothes</li><li>list of props <br /></li><li>list of people</li><li>list of locations</li></ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7m_ALBdHj2JFLKRptOIBnKhz5QAE0HQGVK40WL8vGjZpOS4RCLwD4w0D6QmvWigv81xnn3WfTNNivbBePIp8Pcuzk0WdCVb5_NsySJCOxSqS9V57DrE51SVNxvORw3rKuIUOcqFSC498/s2048/abbas-095.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1363" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7m_ALBdHj2JFLKRptOIBnKhz5QAE0HQGVK40WL8vGjZpOS4RCLwD4w0D6QmvWigv81xnn3WfTNNivbBePIp8Pcuzk0WdCVb5_NsySJCOxSqS9V57DrE51SVNxvORw3rKuIUOcqFSC498/w426-h640/abbas-095.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><p></p><p>You are now ready, so sit back and enjoy. </p><p>By the way, the mood board, the shot list, etc, are just a guideline. How well the shoot goes depends 100% on the baby and 90% chance the baby will not cooperate. We will use Plan B, C, D or whatever it takes to capture some good pictures of your baby.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0RPvPhF1nmYuoBXDZzG4zSZ3tE8FmKo2C3DVgzhN3WH0MWT4BVL7H1lqNwIA6ZC9b7nAtFIHAko-ALtVj4TP3oIPTjtlvllVkKDw0yitZA9J1SWy7nHG0-Fb12GyeHHMJbSQvCGnVKq8/s2048/240833667_10159722026713454_5560834891938641102_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1360" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0RPvPhF1nmYuoBXDZzG4zSZ3tE8FmKo2C3DVgzhN3WH0MWT4BVL7H1lqNwIA6ZC9b7nAtFIHAko-ALtVj4TP3oIPTjtlvllVkKDw0yitZA9J1SWy7nHG0-Fb12GyeHHMJbSQvCGnVKq8/w640-h426/240833667_10159722026713454_5560834891938641102_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>kelvinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14997324847571926340noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7696126241995871029.post-33510888596286685302021-09-14T12:48:00.002-07:002021-09-21T11:24:22.141-07:00My on location set up for food photography<p>During the past 2 years, I have taken photos for over hundred restaurants. A majority of these shoots were for <a href="https://drd.sh/R4PHQoSBborMbpDV" target="_blank">DoorDash</a>. A typical <a href="https://drd.sh/R4PHQoSBborMbpDV" target="_blank">DoorDash</a> session is between 1.5 to 2 hours and we need to shoot between 10 to 20 dishes. Because of the limited time, I usually shoot with natural light and minimum styling. With most of the restaurants having outdoor dining now, this is not too difficult to setup a place to shoot.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPCF4adYGpwqya74mi2AVkwI-6DP2Xz3zrBmXlsvOr7JR4wi6n01x-bPWlunXUnCqe1hCYKnpBGtPKKS2-pCCcrVBSdMuotm9hqZsKAWT_KZH0Z1XjkgYMZG77qZKC0HgRm1IbdF0fiiA/s2048/217973756_10159632904473454_2731857382616344068_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPCF4adYGpwqya74mi2AVkwI-6DP2Xz3zrBmXlsvOr7JR4wi6n01x-bPWlunXUnCqe1hCYKnpBGtPKKS2-pCCcrVBSdMuotm9hqZsKAWT_KZH0Z1XjkgYMZG77qZKC0HgRm1IbdF0fiiA/w480-h640/217973756_10159632904473454_2731857382616344068_n.jpg" width="480" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYGxxoStwmF9eiXZaHp7O2Sr6vbyoCUwbzC9sMB5i5siUI7fRL7bBWww1HhSMpS5FcIZBuaPxNmAAIN0-DQUZR6wPBvtOnkyB9V4rrWkTe8urFXenhRnQiIClyh0wzpOYByoAEzfUcIRI/s2048/hella-002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1363" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYGxxoStwmF9eiXZaHp7O2Sr6vbyoCUwbzC9sMB5i5siUI7fRL7bBWww1HhSMpS5FcIZBuaPxNmAAIN0-DQUZR6wPBvtOnkyB9V4rrWkTe8urFXenhRnQiIClyh0wzpOYByoAEzfUcIRI/w426-h640/hella-002.jpg" width="426" /></a></div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRrONTZwxaMxhKlQA4yjhMeVrnVRg_SW-DWZwhXZkzG2BF82AefZAOc74xq8r9vQ95c49tsTFeCs61c6mtp-3GTe_1JruvqGUO5Yz2cc6yT0WpOCqqyVSVodfH88fKydX3QuL6CI19mlw/s2048/232457703_10159667471078454_7749407264515471919_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRrONTZwxaMxhKlQA4yjhMeVrnVRg_SW-DWZwhXZkzG2BF82AefZAOc74xq8r9vQ95c49tsTFeCs61c6mtp-3GTe_1JruvqGUO5Yz2cc6yT0WpOCqqyVSVodfH88fKydX3QuL6CI19mlw/w480-h640/232457703_10159667471078454_7749407264515471919_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgggOnjFPqnJWUIoHGZOKy3UgNp4RxnPQ8hMKfO18P1ty0bf9pFrDo8RrRGKsxbSyTepkwVSIAFqamZgIMuRfrn0wBV-YJ1hjuXnXwtUW6_cQBOU9bVOrfYf8_xSIJrUj-QGqxhyphenhyphen8UWrYg/s2048/BO7_6120.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgggOnjFPqnJWUIoHGZOKy3UgNp4RxnPQ8hMKfO18P1ty0bf9pFrDo8RrRGKsxbSyTepkwVSIAFqamZgIMuRfrn0wBV-YJ1hjuXnXwtUW6_cQBOU9bVOrfYf8_xSIJrUj-QGqxhyphenhyphen8UWrYg/w640-h426/BO7_6120.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>And I have various table top patterns as background to make the photos more interesting. My answer is always: I have a basket and a fur but I prefer my client to use their own props/costumes, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even during the normal time, using your own props/costumes is good way to protect the health of your newborn baby.</p><p>Here is the basket and the fur that is available for the shoot if you want:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB1THGd3_8Pn7vx1xSjqKb8WbJ7jqinDOdvoqOo_ItJsnbgILZYynXzMmRjyoSzahyphenhyphen3OLLSYniKqqK78pnDfhe-HAtPgRcQcxwtR2lhHZ4dh8M0abkZAC08cB3Jgnkq-lbKn9WjZe_30c/s2048/DSC_3266+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1360" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB1THGd3_8Pn7vx1xSjqKb8WbJ7jqinDOdvoqOo_ItJsnbgILZYynXzMmRjyoSzahyphenhyphen3OLLSYniKqqK78pnDfhe-HAtPgRcQcxwtR2lhHZ4dh8M0abkZAC08cB3Jgnkq-lbKn9WjZe_30c/w640-h426/DSC_3266+2.JPG" width="640" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div>For the background, I have a white blanket (as seen above) that I normally use. But I cannot resist the RX100 III and I got myself one. Here are the unbox photos.<br />

And the EVF is pretty cool. It turns itself and the LCD on and off automatically.<br />

Recently, I have been photographing the cats and kitten at a local shelter called <a href="http://www.ninelivesfoundation.org/">Nine Lives Foundation</a>. They are a community-based organization dedicated to rescuing cats and kittens from high-kill shelters and at-risk situations.

I have shot videos before but I was just fooling around with some low end cameras.
Recently, I bought a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00889ST2G/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00889ST2G&linkCode=as2&tag=yues-20">Sony DSC-RX100 </a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=yues-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00889ST2G" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> for $500 at eBay. It is not just a nice point-and-shoot camera for taking picture, it also has nice video features.
<br><br>
First full video I shot with the camera.<br> Notice that it is pretty stationary. It is because I didn't have the glider nor the video head yet.<br>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iAEYc_ah9Qw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<br><br><br><br>
First time trying out a glider.<br>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/26-iDHL9P5o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<br><br><br><br>
Trying the glider along with the video head for pan and tilt.

A full length video.<br>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AVq5rOoCoSQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Trying out slow motion (done in software).<br>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QATyDB26dFU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Another full length video that I shot during Christmas. <br>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FOobcqBTU9g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<br><br><br><br>
Next post, I will go over the gears I have in more details.Kelvinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09442481028179425672noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7696126241995871029.post-41912227749711842012-12-23T09:30:00.000-08:002012-12-23T09:30:36.877-08:00Merry Christmas from YueStudioHere is a video for you:
